I’ve been focusing on developing my students’ turnout lately, and I find that incorporating simple exercises at home can make a huge difference. One of my favorites is using resistance bands to help strengthen those outer hip muscles — just a few minutes a day can lead to noticeable improvements. Has anyone else tried this or have other tips for enhancing turnout outside of class?
I totally agree about the resistance bands! I’ve found that doing clamshells helps activate those outer hip muscles too. Just be mindful of your form — keeping your pelvis stable can really make a difference.
I’ve found that doing some frog stretches really helps get my hips open, especially when I pair them with resistance band work. Just a few minutes watching TV can feel like a mini dance class! Anyone else use these stretches to help with their turnout?
Resistance bands are such a game changer! I started incorporating them for my turnout exercises and noticed improvements with just 5–10 minutes a day. I like pairing them with side leg lifts to really target those outer hips.
I’ve had great results from adding some active stretches to my routine. While resistance bands work wonders, I find that dynamic exercises like leg swings can really help engage those muscles before you start. It might seem a bit silly, but even doing them while warming up really locks in that awareness and control.
