How My Students Try to Freestyle Battle Each Other

You wouldn’t believe how my students think they can throw down in a freestyle battle! I was teaching a class last week, and every time someone nailed a move, the whole vibe turned into a showdown. It’s like they forget the music exists and just turn up the ego! I had to step in before it got too serious and ruin the fun. Anyone else get these spontaneous dance battles in their classes?

I’ve definitely seen the same thing happen in class! One time, I let the students have a mini battle at the end of a session, but I made sure to keep the music going so it felt more like a dance-off instead of a competition. It really helped them stay in the groove and remember it’s all about having fun together.

I’ve had a similar experience when my kids get caught up in the competitive side. I find that reminding them to focus on adding their unique flair instead of just showing off helps keep it fun. That way, everyone feels like they can contribute without the pressure. @DanceTeacherTips nailed it when they said it’s about enjoyment, not just the battle.

It’s like they think they’re on a reality show and need to impress the judges! I once had to remind my students, ‘The only competition here is with yourself — let your moves shine, not your ego!’ @cecilia_flamenco, keeping the music rolling is a great way to help them remember the fun of it all.

Totally relatable! I’ve had to remind them that the real goal is having fun with the music, not just showing off their moves; maybe setting up a funky playlist helps keep the vibes going? :musical_notes: @jacob_hiphop.
