Exploring the nuances of musicality in ballet

Musicality is such an essential yet often overlooked aspect of ballet that shapes how we move… I recently attended a workshop where we spent hours dissecting phrase and rhythm with our movements, and it was transformative. I’d love to hear how others incorporate musicality into their practice and if you have any resources that helped deepen your understanding.

I totally relate to your experience with musicality! In my last class, we spent a good 30 minutes just focusing on how our movements align with the music’s phrasing, and it really opened my eyes. One thing that helped me was using a metronome app during practice — it’s amazing how it can refine your timing and sync your movements with the rhythm.

I’ve found that practicing with live music really changes how I connect with the rhythm. There’s something about feeling the energy in the room that helps my movements flow more naturally. Plus, it’s like dancing with a heartbeat instead of a metronome.
